MEN AND A BATH.
COUNTERING RECALCITRANCY A. and N.Z. LONDON. Feb. 2. The Morning Post's Duescldorf correspondent reports a quaint example of French treatment of a recalcitrant industrial magnate. One of the minor German coal barons occupying a fine mansion near his mines churlishly refused to allow French soldiers guarding the mines to use baths provided, for the miners. "Very well, monsieur," replied the French officer, " if that is inconvenient, we will meet your wishes from tomorrow. My men will use your bathrooms in your private house." The coal baron now regrets hia decision.
