GEN. RICHARDSON APPOINTED

DISTINGUISHED CAREER. [BY TBLEQEAPH.—PBJEBS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Saturday. \ It is officially announced that BrigadierGeneral Richaidson has been appointed Administrator of Samoa. ' - Brigadier-General G. S. Richardson has had a distinguished career in the army. He joined the Royal Garrison Artillery at Woolwich at the age of 16 years, and subsequently served as a gunner at Gibraltar. He received special promotion for his ability and zeal, and proceeded to England to join ,the Long Course, in Gunnery at Shoeburyness. Here he reached the top of his class, . and •■■ soon afterwards was recommended to . the New Zealand Government as 'a gunnery' instructor. :He was re-engaged by the Minister for Defence in New Zealand when his three years' term expired, and later joined the staff of the New Zealand forces with the rank of captain. His' remarkable - success : _[. at the Camberley Staff College, in England, caused the War Office to choose'him. when an officer was required to organise a force of 25,000 marines and sailors for the defence of Antwerp. After the naval division returned to .;' England, LieutenantColonel Richardson went to the French front, joining the army of General French. He was again required in ■;' England to organise and refit the naval division connected with the expedition to Gallipoli. He was afterwards appointed to a British corps with headquarters at Salonika, in an administrative capacity with the frank of Brigadier-General. Recalled later by the New Zealand Government he took the duties of General Officer in charge of administration with the New 'Zealand Expeditionary Forces, ?■ and had his ,; headquarters in London, where he remained until after the armistice. After the armistice he was recalled as' General Officer in charge of administration and . Chief of Staff of tha Dominion forces,' and has served in that capacity until his present appointment as Administrator of' Samoa.
