REPRESENTATION QUESTION.
NURSES' EXAMINATIONS.
The Auckland Hospital Board met last evening. Th© chairman, Mr. W. Wallace, presided. There were also present: Messrs. G. Baildon, G. Knight, J. Deinpsey, JI. J. Coyle, J. owe, E. H. Potter. H. Aitkenhead, J. D. Chalmers, W. IC. Howitt. and M- J. Savage, M.i?.
Notification was received , that the SfltiU*;" for Public Health had consented to tho erection of an infirmary ward for women at the Costley Home. The structure is to contain 68 beds. It was decided to call for tenders, returnable next week. In view of the ' elections of hospital boards in April, the clinic tor-general, Dr. T. H. A. Valintine, woc-e stating that it was proposed to mahe some revisions in the matter of representation of li local authorities on tho boards. Awoulaifl .should be included with Mount I Albert.;;., ~ ... j The fact that women are jitw admitted to th© hospital for nervous diseases, ■ at Hanmer Springs was -intimated in a letter from the department. A recommendation was received from the board of examiners that before nurses entered for the State examination they should have passed all their * hospital examinations. The medical superintendent,. Dr. C. E. Maguire, stated that at present a girl'who had not passed her third year examination at the hospital could obtain a State examination pass. It was decided to refer the request of the examiners to the department. Dr. Maguire recommended that the number of anaesthetists at the hospital be increased, and that an annual honorarium be paid. He stated that last year thrive ware 3900 operations, lind that the resident doctors were- frequently , engaged as anaesthetists when they shouM have been round the wards. The matter was referred to the Finance Committee to report. The dental hospital report for December stated that during that month 309 children and 116 adults attended for treatment.
