REMARKABLE DUST STORM.

AUSTRALIAN VISITATION.

[FROM OUR OWN correspondent.]

SYDN.-3Y, Jan. 11.

The Western districts of New South Wales "were visited last week by a remarkable dust, storm, the worst for 50 years. There have been isolated storms of greater intensity, suck as that which 1 most completely demolished the town of Nevertire some years ago, but never has such an immense area of country been swept by wind and enveloped in "dust. Water carts worked all day in the streets of Dubbo, and though, the temperature was low, the effect of the watering could not be seen five minutes after the' carts had passed any spot. In towns without lights in the houses, and in the streets, for marry hours one could not sec any object 3, few yards away for dust. The streets were deserted, and all work 011 farms and stations had to be suspended. Mail drivers and those who'had been out in the country had to seek shelter, and owing to the density of the clouds of dust it was impossible for then, to proceed on their ways. A dust and rain storm of exceptional violence passed over Trangie And district. By noon the wind had increased to a gale, with dense clouds of dust, and continued with cyclonic force till nearly sundown. The roofs of several buildings were blown away. 'Die Western mail coach, shortly after leaving Trangie, ran into the worst of the storm, the dustbeing so dense that the driver sounded his whistle continuously for some distance. Old residents of the district declared .that they had never experienced such weather.
