TE PUKE DISTRICT.
DRAINING THE SWAMPS. [BY TELEGRAPH. own CORRESPONDENT.] TE PUKE. Thursday. On Tuesday night the Xgaptihi called at the Mount Wharf on the outward trip, picking up a' large complement of passengers that had arrived by rail. An alteration has been made in the train service on Tuesdays and Fridays. The train from MiVtata will leave Te Puke in future at 6.15 p.m., which is two hours later than formerly. The change made is much appreciated by the travelling public. The three dredges opera-ting** in the Waihi and Pukehina swamps are working satisfactorily. Two of the recently-im-ported American dredges are engaged in the Pongakaiwa River, one working up the river and the other clown, it is expected this part of the work will be completed before the close of the present year. The several sections of land which were placed on the market a few months ago halve evidently been taken up by ml energetic type of * settler, as clearing, fencing4nd the erection of buildings has already taken place.
