IMPERIAL WIRELESS.

UNDER REVIEW BY BRITAIN.

THE FINANCIAL FACTOR.7 A. and N-Z. .LONDON, Jan. 8. "; Lord Burnhain introduced ■ a deputation from th© Empire Press Union to the Post-master-General, Mr. Neville Chamberlain. I Speakers ! representing all the Dominions ! urged the supreme necessity for something to he done in ;; the matter : of ' the; establishment of wireless stations, ensuring .quicker and cheaper communications, and. placing Britain on an equality with other' nations in the matter. Mr Chamberlain, replying,. : said the question was .not cine for' the Post Office alone, but for the whole Cabinet. He did not think it : necessary that the stations at this end should be operated by the same ; authority or organisation as in : the Dominions. It was necessary; to take into consideration the question of the cost and whether a : useful purpose would be served by increasing the capacity of the stations in order to secure'the ; luxury of a somewhat better service which, how-every-would-be• disproportionate t Q i the extra cost involved. v i ; J ; The Post Office was considering 1 *! the policy of the late Government in the light of recent developments !in the Dominions, but, had not yet come to any conclusion. Therefore it was ] impossible for him to give any definite reply.' -He hoped there .would be no long delay. He thought - the decision on policy would be satisfactory to all concerned. ._• The great question -was ' the ' money. ■ The : Government had not yet decided what size the stations would be. That was solely a technical question, but he desired to emphasise : again that ' the money had to be taken into consideration. Mr'. Chamberlain said he thought he could assure the deputation that 'when the scheme was announced it would be found in every wayij a suitable complement to what -had [been" done and was proposed by the various Dominions.'
