AUSTRALIAN ELECTIONS.
THE LATEST ESTIMATE. THIRTY SEATS FOR LABOUR. FIVE MINISTERS DEFEATED. Br Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY, Dec. 26. The week-end election returns show slight alterations in the state of the parties, which is now:— Labour .. .. .. .. 30 Nationalists .. .. .. 28 Country Party .. .. 14 Liberals 2 Independents 1 Altogether five of Mr. Hughes' Ministers have been defeated, namely, Mr. W. Massy Greene, Minister for Defcnce; Mr. A. Poynton, Postmaster-General; Mr. H. Lantond, Assistant-Minister for Repatriation; Mr. A. S. Rodgers, Minister for Customs; and Senator J. Earle, vice-president of the Executive Council. Two ex-Ministers, Mr. G. H. Wise and Mr. W. H. Laird Smith also have been defeated. The election of three Senators for Tasmania is complete, a Nationalist, a Country Party and a Lab'our candidate having been elected. The seats were previously occupied by three Nationalists.
