ANIMATED COMPETITION. [JJY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] TIMARU. Friday.
The first of the current season's wool sales was held to-day in the presence of a full aench of buyers, including represonUtives from Bradford, the Continent, America and the Dominion's mills. The catalogue aggregated 8382 bales, representing all grades, the bulk being of fair quality, but rather below the parity of clips offered at Christchurch. For all classes there was animated competition, a good clearance being effected at prices on a par with the enhanced prices riding at the recent sales in Christchurch The following is the range of prices:—■ Merino 17£ d to 23id, TialfMed 82 to 23J,d, threequarter-bred 9£d to 19£ d; crossbred 7£d to Corriedale 18d to 23£ d, longvvool B£d to lid. Pieces: Merino 17£ dto 23id, halfbred B|d to 20|d, threequarter-bred 6£d to llijd, crossbred Bd, Corriedale 15d to 20d; locks 4id to 10£ d; crutchings 4£d to 7£d; bellies sid to 16J,d.
