The 22-year-old baker, named Symonds, who was sentenced to death for tho murder of Martha Wall, aged IS. the daughter of his employer, while both were carrying out a. pact to commit suicide, has been reprieved. Tho mutilated body of the girl was found on the railway near Walton. Symonds was nearby, his two feet being so crushed by the train that both legs had to be amputated to the knees.
