Busineos is practically lifeless, and little movement ma? ba expected until after the holidays. The Australian demand for oats is easier, due to the beneficial rains in New South Wales. Quotations, as a result, are 2d per bushel less from Sydney than they werj & fortnight ago. At country stations values are nominally 2s 6d for B grade. Good bright, heavy oaten chaff is meeting with a fair demand, and gooa quality is worth £3 10s to £3. 15s at country stations. There is an entire absence of business in new 1 season's wheat. One eaipert opinion is that early values will be about 5b per bushel, but after the first demand Is filled there will be an eauing tendency. Other -viewa incline to the belief that the yield will not be good all round as it was last-year, and that there will be little surplus to depress prices. There has been an inquiry or two about barley.. Forward business in potatoes is negligible. The area in crop is understood to be large, and crops are coming on well.
