MR. HUGHES MAKES PROTEST. A. and N.Z. MELBOURNE, Dec. 20.

Mir. W. M. Hughes says that Britain made an invidious distinction in lifting the embargo on Canadian cattle and not on Australian. The Australian cattle trade is already severely handicapped by remoteness from British markets. The action was incompatible with Imperial relations, amd he had made representations to the British Government on the matter.
