FIRE-IN FORT STREET.
ROOMS IN WRIGHT'S BLOCK.
DAMAGE TO SAMPLES.
A fire occurred in the offices of Messrs. G H Davies and Co., indentore, W right s Buildings, Fort Street, at about ten o'clock last evening. The alarm was given by a tenant of the building, Mr. C. &. Major. . The fire brigade succeeded in confining the fire to the rooms mentioned lfto stock, consisting largely of samples or soft goods and similar articles and the fittings, were seriously damaged by tire and water. Tho origin of the fire is unknown. It is understood that the damage is covered by insurance. As the fire occurred on the first floor, it is probable that water will have occasioned damage in the rooms below.
OTHER OUTBREAKS.
BLAZING TAR IN GREY LYNN.
A tar boiler in Williamson Avenue, Grev Lynn, catching fire -was responsible for 'the "dense clouds of black smoke seen in the district early yesterday afternoon. Several fire alarm boxes were broken, and the city and Grey Lynn brigades turned out. No damage was done beyond the burning of a considerable amount of ta-. A detached wash-house on the property of Mr. T. J. Walker, Sanders Avenue, Takapuna, was burned to the ground at eight o'clock yesterday morning, fire from the copper furnace having ignited material on the floor. In the absence of fire-fighting appliances there was no means of saving the structure. The efforts of neighbours protected the main dwelling from any serious damage. The outhouse was insured with the Standard office for £50.
