CARDS OF GREETINGS.

Christmas cards have become such an institution that it is difficult to realise that 70 years ago they were unknown.

The originator of the Christmas card was Henry Cole, who subsequently became a knight. The first card was issued by .Joseph Cundall, a London artist, in 1846. The drawing was done by J. C. Iloisley, 11.A., and was printed m lithography by a man named Jobbing. It was coloured by band.

It was not until IC6"> tin'!, the Christmas card, as we know it to-day, became i>opular_
