A very successful garden party was held in the convent grounds on Saturday last, despite the showery weather.

Haymaking was in full swing ufilil tho heavy rain set in on Saturday. It is considered this ia the most prolific season for hay crops for a number of years. The Piako County Council has decided to make representations to the next Counties Conference in the matter of motor-car registration, it being contended that some other local bodies are " not playing th'J game " when they offer vendors a rebat.o on tho regular registration fee to secure registration by those local bodies at the expense of other local bodies in whose. districts tho cars are owned and where they use the roads.
