NOT WORTHY OF AUCKLAND

DISPLAY AT CHRISTCHURCH

DIFFICULTIES OF TRANSPORT. [BT TELEGRAPH.—OWN COBHESPONDEHT.]

CHRISTCHURCH. Monday.

Mr. J. A. C. Allum, president, of the Auckland Manufacturers' Association, and a vice-president of the Now Zealand Industrial Exhibition, paid a visit to the exhibition to-day. In referring to his visit, he stated that the exhibition was one of which Christchurch might justly be proud. He expressed surprise at the range the exhibits covered and tho effectiveness of the display.

One thing he regretted, however, was the lack in the number of exhibits from Auckland. Those on display which had been sent from that city were good. He explained that the reason for this paucity of Auckland stands was not through any lack of interest on the part of Auckland manufacturers, but through the difficulty experienced in sending exhibits down to Christ church. He stated that when first tho exhibition had been planned it had been decided to send tho secretary of the Auckland Manufacturers' Association to Christchurch to specially attend tc the receiving of tho Auckland exhibits, but, on account of' the extended time of the display, it had been found impossible to do this.

The association in Auckland realised the importance of promoting the interests of Dominion manufacturers, and were prepared to as;u<it in this aim to the utmost. They alio were convinced of tho necessity of furthering the aims of the Auckland manufacturers. He was anxious to emphasise this point, and he thought his contention was borne out by the combined action of the manufacturers of the Dominion in connection with the Tariff Bill.
