TREATMENT OF IMMIGRANTS.

Sir Auckland Orddes, British Ambassador to the United States, held a conference with Mr. .1. J. Davis. Secretary for Labour, yesterday, as a result of the interpellation in the House of Commons recently concerning the treatment of British subjects on Ki! ; s Island, the New York station for the reception of irannprams.
It is understood that Mr. Davis maintained that immigrants were receiving excellent treatment. He also stated that welfare organisations of various kinds had investigated the conditions, and found that the complaints were merely propaganda intended to discredit the present Immigration restrictions. He also declared that plans were now under way to rebuild the Ellis Tsland station in order to provide for the segregation of the races
