WAIHI BOROUGH FINANCES.
LOAN MONEYS RECEIVED.
EASIER POSITION EXPECTED. [BY TELEGBAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT J WAIHI, Monday The Waihi Borough Council to-day received for the Government the debentures for the loan of £12,000, of which £6000 is to be applied for the extinction of the council's "antecedent liability," and the greater part of the balance will go to pay the last of the recreation reserve, taken over under the Public Works Act, at Waihi Beach, Although practically nothing will remain for general maintenance purposes, there is reason to anticipate that the financial stress under which the Waihi Council has been suffering for some time past will be considerably relieved during the coming year, in consequence of the resumption of crushing in January next by the Grand Junction Goldtaining Company, which will materially add to the revenuo from gold duty. A reduction of charges is likely to be made by the Government against the borough in connection with the Ohinemuri and Waihou Rivers' silting scheme.
