GIFTS FOR MEN. The selection of a present for their men friends almost invariably is a cause of deep thought, or even worry to women, and it is not to be wondered at that thoy eventually remember that ties, handkerchiefs, and similar articles, are ever useful and acceptable. Messrs. Smith and Caughey have borne this fact well in mind in the selection of their mercery stocks this season, and it is no uncommon thing these days to see just as many women as men assembled at their busy counters. A brief description of a few of their leading mercery lines will probably be of interest to those who have not yet definitely completed their purchase of Christmas presents. First and foremost, perhaps, come ties and handkerchiefs, lines in which this firm is particularly well stocked. There are lovely silk handkerchiefs in fancy design, handkerchiefs coloured and plain, initialled both in silk and in linen. The lies, too, are very attractive. Small parcels of these goods are constantly coming to hand by post, keeping supplies thoroughly up-to-date. For holiday wear, there is a wide range of articles, fancy sox, sweaters, embroidered with club colours, woollen blazers for sports or camp wear, silk and cambric shirt!!, white flannel and garbi trousers, and handsome silk pyjamas. Bathing suits and gentlemen's towelling bathgowns nmy also be mentioned as suitablo gift articles, the latter proving invariably useful for those who spend their holidays at the seaside.
Smith and Caughey, Ltd., are displaying a charming selection of holiday frocks and ready-to-wear millinery. Early inspection advised.
