OTAHUHU AFFAIRS.

The Otahuhu Borough Council met on Thursday. The Mayor, Mr. R. B. Todd, presided, and there were also present: Messrs. Brady, Clements, Hall, Nicholls, Preston, Shepherd and Whiteley. The balance-sheet for the year ending March 31, 1922, was received from the Controller $nd Auditor-General, duly certified as correct, and was adopted by the . council.

The Medical Officer of Health wrote asking the council to make certain alterations in a drain in Huia Road, and to notify the owner of a septic tank discharging into this drain to have the tank cleaned out. It was decided to comply with the request. The secretary to the Department of Labour wrote with regard to fixing the statutory half-holiday for the combined district of Otahuhu and Papatoetoe for the ensuing year. Mr- Nicholls was appointed the council's delegate, and the /natter of the date for a conference with, the delegate of the Papatoetoe Town Board was left in his hands.

Messrs. Wynyard, Wilson. Vallance and Holmden wrote stating tliat it appeared that the strips of land necessary to make Avenue Road West a full chain road had never been dedicated, and asking the Mayor to make a declaration to the effect that the road had been a full chain wide for over 20 years, and had had •public money spent thereon. This course was adopted. The State Advances Superintendent advised that the first instalment (£2oool of the waterworks extension loan had been placed to the council's credit at the bank. The payment of accounts totalling £406 16s out of loan moneys was authorised. The foreman reported -that 11 building, permits for buildings nf a total value of £5172 10s had been issued since last meeting. It was decided to notify the police that the puriri tree at the corner of Panmure Road and Avenue Road had been seriously damaged, and to ask them to prosecute the offenders if they could he found. 0
