MATCH WITH TRANSVAAL.

The English team commenced a match against the Transvaal at Johannesburg today. The weather was fine and th« wicket fast. England in the first innings made 240, individual scores being:—

Russell 4, Sandham 75, Woolley 76, Mead 2, Brown 3, Carr 34, Jupp 1, Fender 0, Mann 15, Stevenß 20, Kennedy not out 0. There were 10 extras.

Nupen took five wickets for 76 runs, Dixon 2 for 38, and Duis 2 for 55.

Transvaal have scored 24 runs without loss.
