GIANT AEROPLANE.

A SUCCESSFUL TRIAL.

SIXTEEN CYLINDER ENGINE

Auetralian and N-Z. Cable Association. (R«cd. 5 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 15. Bert Hinkler, the Australian, was the pilot in a trial trip of an aeroplane with a 1000 horse-power engine. The machine is the largest in the world. Tho engine consists of sixteen cylinders, fitted to a long distance bomber with a lifting capacity of seven tons. The aeroplane carries three people, any of whom can change places during the flight. The. propellor is 16ft. across. There are special appliances for keeping' iho hands and feet warm, and preventing the gun from freezing. The petrol tanks are selffilling, so that, they will not catch fire if pierced by bullets. Hinkler readily manoeuvred the monster aeroplane, rising, falling, and turning in all directions with great ease.
