A hard-luck story can be told'by Joseph Bird, the winner of an eighth share in a £1500 newspaper competition. He has been ordered to pay £260, 16 years* arrears for the maintenance of his wife, from whom he parted five months after marriage. The wife tracd the husband through the announcement of his success in the competition.
