TURKEY GIVES WAY
MINORITIES ISSUE.
LEAGUE TO HAVE CONTROL,
WAY TO UNDERSTANDING.
CAPITULATION QUESTION. THE OTTOMAN DEBTS. Bj Telegraph—Press Association— Copyristt (Received 9.15 p.m.) JA. and N.Z. LONDON, Dec. 14. Tt. is announced from Lausanne that the fjurks have fallen in with the wishes of the Allies, and have agreed to hand over 'Control of minorities in Turkey to the League of Nations. They thus reverse *their former policy of agreeing to reforms with regard to their treatment of Greeks, Armenians, and other nations •within their frontier?, but refusing to permit any external supervision of the administration of the reforms.
The decision of the Turks to join the League and submit the control of minorities to it paves the way to complete understanding. It is even possible, if' a final settlement is not reached regarding capitulations and Mosid, that these questions will be referred to the Council of the League. The permanent commission of the League will take up the discussion of the minorities question without waiting for Turkey's formal admission to the League, which cannot bo voted on until jthe n?st League Assembly.
It is reported from Lausanne that the 'Allies trill ask the Council of the League of Nations to summon a special meeting of the Assembly to admit Turkey, thus leaving the League to settle all outstanding questions after the conference establishes the general principle of, peace. It is expected the questions of Mosul and the Ottoman debts -will be finally settled at Genera.
