CHARGES AT ROTORUA.
SOUTHERNER'S COMPLAINT. The charges made by the Government' jit Rotorua are criticised by a resident of Wellington, who haa just completed a visit \o the thermal district. "Formerly," he said, " almost a&y bath in the. placer could be had for 6d, but now the charge is Is or even Is 6d. consequently 'peopV cannot go as often as they would Jiks to.; It was quite common for peoples to take " two and.three baths a day,, but at Is 6<J a time the person' of average means simply cannot afford the cost. .-'- If: you, want to play bowls, it is Is a game—tha [ same with croquet. It is pay, pay, pay all the time. On top of that the cost of ' board and residence has gone up at Rotorua, while it has gons down in the cities."' Continuing, he said ho paid £2.10s a week three years ago, now it is j £3 15s -a week. "Under such circumstances," he added, "is it any wonder that things are dull at Rotorua? To mo, it looks like a conspiracy to SUI the place or force it into private ownership. A few years ago people of moderate means used to be able to spend a good holiday at Soforua at the cost of a few pounds. Nowadays it can't he done."
