NOTES AND COMMENTS. The weather conditions lust Saturday were perfect, for the first of the tri*l races in connection with the selection of & boat to represent Auckland in the race for the Utt championship of New Zealand. The Bona, the winner, tad matters pretty well her own ' viay when tho boats hauled on the wind, j and though she did not run quite as fast ; as Iron Duke and Joan, the issue was never m doubt. Judging by her past and present performances the selectors should not have any d.fncuhy in coming to their decision lbe second trial race will take place this afternoon over a triangular course. The Ngapuhi will make a speciajl trip from Auckland to Tauranga, leaving here on Boring ni3ht and returning after the regatta Tho cup is now on exhibition in Queen Street. The Rußsell Regatta Club has issued its programme for the annual regatta, which takes place on Wednesday, December 27. The events include racee for keel ■ yachts, centre-beard boats, 14ft one-design clasa (first prise, £10), 14ft open does, launches, auxiliaries, and numerous rowing , and ewimming races. Arrangements have ' been mao'e with the Northern Company tc 1 convey 14ft boats from Auckland to Russell and bark at a very reasonable figure.
