EXTENDED COALMINE.
WORK TO RESUME TO-DAY.
FIRE AREA BLOCKED OFF.
INSPECTION BY MR. REED.
Work will be resumed in the Extended coalmine at Huntly this morning. Operations at the mine were suspended last week owing to an outbreak of fire in the west section of the workings.
At the request of the miners, an inspection of the mine was made yesterday by Mr. F. Reed, formerly chief inspector of mines, accompanied by the president of the Miners' Union, Mr. H. L. Roberts. A meeting of the miners was held in tha afternoon, when a report by Mr. Reed on the condition of the mino was considered. As a result the men decided to resume work as stated.
Operations in the meantime will be confined to the north section, and to provide employment for the men who were engaged in the other section a doable shift will be worked. It is stated that the area affected by the fire has been satisfactorily blocked off, and the mine is considered to be perfectly safe.
