As a result of the readjustment of wages of maritime workers, the shipping companies announce a reduction in coastal freight on general cargo and produce approximating 2s per ton. Local passage rates remain unaltered as it is felt that the whole community will benefit more by freight reductions than in the lowering of fares, which would affect only those who can afford to travel.
