THAMES, Tuesday.

A poll was taken to-day by the Borough Coimcil on the question of maintaining the present system of rating on unimproved value, or reverting to rating on the annual value. This has been, brought about owing to the council having received a numerously-signed petition in favour of the old syscem. At tho same time a pell was taken on a proposal to raise a loan of £6500 for the proposed new road from Pollen Street to the site of the proposed new bridge across tho Kauaeranga Biver at Parawai, near the railway bridge. The proposal to revert to tho system of rating on annual value was rejected by 409 votes to 235, while 440 votes were cast for the loan proposal and 203 against.
