ONEHUNGA AFFAIRS.
The Onehunga Borough Council met last evening. There were present:—The Mayor, Mr. J. Park, Messrs. J. E. Cbrrell. W. V. Mcintosh, A. McColl, J. Macklow, R. Ainsworth, T. Gilbert, P. R. Lips- , combe, and E. Morton. A deputation of members of the Beau-' tifying and Citizens' Committee asked" for instructions as to the standing o.t the joint committees in the matter of carryine out work in Jellicoe Park, more especially in the matter of. tarring and sanding of sections of the playground. The Mayor ex- - plained that the Citizens' Committee and Beautifying Committee were to carry on their respective work to their mutual i agreement, that the council had representatives upon the Beautifying Committee who would look after the council's interests, and that wherever major changes or alterations were proposed to the park or reserves the suggested change should be submitted to the council for approval through its representatives on the committee. The raising of a loan to be known as. the unemployment loan, not exceeding £3000, at 6 per cent., -.vos confirmed. A& % security for the interest and sinking fund a special rate of 11-18 d in the £ will be struck but not collected, it being the intention to meet the same out of the general revenue. The city by-laws for heavy traffic were approved, with the exception of the exemption of private cars. It was decided to approach the Local Bodies' Association with a view to reducing the licenses on commercial vehicles.
