SYDNEY MARINE DISPUTE.
MOERAKI HELD UP. TROUBLE WITH FIREMEN. Australian and N-Z. Cable Association.' (Red. 95 pan.) SYDNEY. Not. 8. The departure of the Moeraki, which should have sailed this afternoon for Auckland, has been delayed. One of the Moexaki's firemen injured his band and was incapacitated, and two others .on Sydney articles left the steamer. The other firemen demanded that their places should be filled by men on Sydney articles. Ob it was believed that this would be followed by a demand that the whole crew should be placed on Australian rates the company declined to accede to the demands. The Moeraki, which has 172 passengers, mails, and cargo aboard, is anchored in Neutral Bay awaiting developments. Negotiations between officials of the company and the Seamen's Union have so far been ineffective. The company claims that the men's demands exceed the requirements of the law. The Union Company's steamer Waikawa, scheduled to leave for Nauru this afternoon, is also held up. The Waikawa's crew took action in sympathy with New Zealand seamen. Ab they are on New Zealand articles they are liable to prosecution. The Waikawa has been taken'to an anchorage down the harbour. The crew is still aboard.
