THE YACHTING SEASON

OPENING TO-MORROW. CBUISING AND HARBOUR RACES. ENTRIES AND HANDICAPS. The official opening of the 1922-23 yachtin? season in Auckland -will take place tomorrow afternoon in the form of a com- ' bined cruising race to Matiatia Bay, Wainelto, for yachts and launches and harbour races' for half-decked and open boats. The arrangements have been made by the Auckland Yacht and Motor-boat Association, and all the local clubs are taking part. With the exception of the larger keel yachts, the majority of which bnye not yet been launched, the entries in tho various classes are very satisfactory, especially in the open-boat events. In tho cruising race the fleet has been divided into three classes, the boats of each club racing together in their respective classes. The keel yachts will start at 2.30 p.m., tho centreboard boats at 2.40 p.m., and the launches at 2.50 p.m. The course for the yachts is from starting lino between the Tower on King's Wharf and a mark-boat moored north, thence round a mark-boat off Northcote on starboard, thence direct to Matiatia. ' All boats must keep channel side of the Sandspit beacon and the Bean Rock lighthouse, and must finish between the southern point of Matiatia and the launch Daisv, moored north. i Trie launches will start from the same position as the yachts, and will then proceed round the eastern pile beacon in St. Mary's Bay on starboard, thence direct to Matiatia, keeping channel side of the Sandspit beacon and Bean Rock lighthouse. The course tor the open-boats, with the exception of the Z class, is from starting line, thence round mark-boat on starboard oft Northcote, round Sandspit beacon on starboard, round Resolution buoy on starboard, to starting line, once round. The starting times for the harbour races are:-V" Class (18-footers), 3 p.m.; Ai 'class (14ft, one-design), 3.10 p.m.; b class (•.Bft, and under), 3.20 p.m.: Y class (14ft, square bilge), 3.30 p.m.; T class (14ft. handicap), 3.40 p.m.; Z class (Takapuna one-design), 3.50 p.m. Messrs. A. Deacon and P. Boonstra will pet as starters for all classes, and Mr. L. J Kelly as timekeeper and judge for the cruising race. The times for the harbour events will be taken by Mr. W. A.
