Holdswortl*, Independent i Progressive candidate for Grey Lynn, delivered an address. Mr. J.' W. Shackelford presided. The meeting was most orderly throughout, therej being no interruptions, and a complete absence of heckling. / In speaking of the need- for a strong and stable 1 form of Government, with a sound constructive policy, Mr. Holdsworth said that a spirit of/ destructiyeness and violence seemed to b«j abroad in the world. These forces wouM gain strength in New Zealand "alsjo, if given the opportunity. All rigty t-thinkin? persons should do their utmost to counteract these forces and thus prevent the Empire, which had done so iimch for civilisation, being destroyed. (Lqud applause.)] Mr. Holds-Worth - admitted ; that though the education System was, excellent,' it was not aitosetlier faultless. More attention should be paid tjo technical cducation. Together with a,, progressive land policy, there should .be. a sound immigration policy, having an' its objective the placing of men and.women on the land rather than bringing out, artisans to compete in the work of. the city. A vote of thanks.and confidence was passed without a dissentient voice. MR WAY AT NORTBCOTE. REPLY TO MR. MASSEY, Mr R. F.
