LOW PRICE OF EGGS.

BAKERS BUY FREELY.

QUESTION OF EXPORT./ [BY TELBGRAPE. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. The egg market continues to be well supplied, there being much heavier production this year than in any previous period in the history of the industry in New Zealand. Up to the present time bakers have been buying very freely and have absorbed the supply. It is expected they will continue to take the surplus for the remaining few months of high production. Prices seem to have reached bedrock, although, in the opinion of some, a further fall will take place. This year they have fallen below anticipations. Bakers at the commencement of the season were prepared to take their supplies at Is 3d, but the heavy production has fyrced prices down to their present basis of Is Id wholesale. Most retailers are selling at Is 2d to Is 3d a dozen. Export orders have been offered, but many of the producers have feared "to accept them as they are under bond to supply New Zealand's demands soi as to prevent the import of eggs from other countries. A trial shipment of eggs in pulp is leaving by tho Tainui for London, but this is in the form of an experiment rather than a commercial undertaking. It is anticipated that if the industry continues to grow an export trade will be essential, and that next year there should be a large quantity of eggs finding their way into other markets. In the low prices of eggs obtained during the year the public have shared tho advantage, and a very large number have been and are being preserved for winter use
