CITY DRAINAGE WORKS.
REPLACING THE OLD SYSTEM. ISSUE OF LOAN BALANCE. The. important work of renewing and extending the city's drainage system is being steadily advanced. It is considered to be one of the most essential factors in improving the hygienic coalition of Auckland. The Mayor, Mr. J. H. Gunson, explained yesterday that, although the last loan or £32,000 for drainage had been exhausted, there was still an authorised balance of £40,000 for the same purpose. It was therefore the intention of the City Council, at an early date to issue debentures for that authorised sum. The work itself had not been arrested, continued Mr. Gunson, and would be continued at the same rate of progress. Tha old system would be renewed wherever necessary, while new lines would be laid down in different localities as already scheduled. Such improvement wag essential to the health of the community, and there was no doubt the council's works had already contributed a great deal to the improved standard of wboleeomeness.
