NOTES AND COMMENTS. Several yachjts and launches took the water last wotk-end, and a number will be launched i during the weetc, but the majority will not ho put afloat until Labour Day (Monday). Amonz the boats launched on Saturday were the Daisy. Adelaide, Bona, Dulcie, Ben Machree, lone, and Coauette. *. Mr. f. Lidgard has decided to call Tiia new 20-footer the Winifred. She is a very roomy craft, and ha« already taken the water. A special meeting of the Akarima Yacht Club will bo held tniaevening to diiwusa th® now clubhouse scheme. /The ,keel yacht Wairiki B*as recently changed hands, her new owner bcjing Mr. S. R. Speight, formerly part owner of the 2i-footer Maru. The Wairiki has undergone an extensive overhaul, and is now m firstciass order. She will take the w*ter .this week-end. and will ba * competitor in the various clubs this season. . The yacht Romp, which waa driven ashore in Judges Bay 'last season and damaged, is being repaired. Her lead keel was run on last week, and work is now Naeing earned out on the hull. The Victoria Cruising Club haa decided to hold a race for 18ft. boats and under on November 4. During: the aftemocfo the club's roll of honour will bo unveiled by the patron, Mr. E- H. Davis. Sydney's largest yacht. Mratral 11.. owned by Mr. E. <?• Simpson, recently made her appearance in. Sydney Harbour. . She i& schooner-rigged, and is a fine type of cruiser, being somewhat similar in aeeign to the American schooner Boston. . Her principal dimensions are: Length. 64ft.; beam, 15ft s and draught, Bft. 2in. ( She id fitted with a SS-h.p. engine, and has every modern convenience. • A complimentary emoke concert was tendered M:r. T. L. Thompson, commodore of -the Victoria Cruising Club, on Tuesday even, ing Mr. L. Tercel, cice-oommodore, presided, and there wa« a large attendance of members and friends. An excellent programme of musjeal and '«>cal item% was gone through, and wae much appreciated. Mr. Thompson was presentsd with a case of pipes as a slight - token of the esteem in which he ie held by his club mates. The yachting season in Wellington will be opened on November 11. In the event of Lord Jellicoe being in Wellington on that rjftte, he will take part in the official openThe Ponsonby Cruisinr Club has 'been granted permission by the Auckland Yacht and Motor Boat Association to call the annual race„Jor the Heweon Memorial Cup the Jnnior Championship for nnder 21 in the 14ft one-design clans. The first race for the Sanders Memorial Cup will take nlace in Auckland on Tuesday, January SO So far only Otatco has intimated its intention of challenging for the cup. but there !e 'ever? indication of challenges being received from, Napier, Wellington and Lyttelton also. it
