The National Council of the Indcoen- • dent Labour Party passed a resolution j welcoming the prospect of an immediate ; general election, describing Mr. Lloyd I George's speech at Manchester as a [ puerile attempt to justify tho Coalition's | ruinous Home and foreign policies to I which it attributes the present serious de- ' prossion and ruin in Europe, declaring Mr. Lloyd George's defence of the Coalition's I mishandling of the Near East as a travesty j of the facts, and calling on the people not i to t rust any leader of tho old diplomacy, but'to return a Labour majority pledged to reconstruct conditions nt Home, and abroad on lines of co-operation for the benefit of all. Only by such new policies and outlook, declares the resolution, can 1 the world be saved from further disaster. CONFERENCE OF UNIONISTS MR. CHAMBERLAIN TO SPEAK. A. and N.Z. LONDON. Oct. 16. Mr. Austen Chamberlain is to address a conference of Unionist Ministers and members at tho Carlton Clnb on Thursday. A vote is expected on the party s election policy.
