WELCOME TO MR. J. BODDIE

FARMERS' COMPANY SOCIAL. An enioyable sociablc gathering was held at the Farmers'" Union Trading Company's building last evening, when a welcome home" was tendered to Mr. d. ,j Boddie, chairman of directors, who »•* ;g turned last -week from an N overseas tour. The gathering was a large one, several hundred guests being present, and the evening was marked by a fins spirit of cordiality and goodwill. . A hearty welcome was extended to Mr. Boddie by Mr.. B. A. Laidlaw,, general manager, who spoke of the good services rendered to the community by Mr. Boddie during a period of public life extending over 30 yt&rs, and of the 4igh opinion in which he was held by everyone associated with the company. Mr. Boddie expressed himself a,; Ksenjy appreciative of the honour paid biin cy so large a gathering. _ He paid a, tribute to the manner in which his co-directors, the manager and other officers of the conpnny hud carried on the work dunnj m absence, enabling him to make a trip to which he had looked forward for many ; years. During his trip had gamed much information in business matters, but in no organisation had he found greater loyalty, staunchness or enthusiasm than he knew exiisted among the officers and stuff of his own company. He oqiiCiUdea with sincere thanks to all those who ex* tended to him 60 warm a welcome. . - The singing of "For He's a Jollv Good Fellow" and cheers for "Mr. and, Mrs, | Boddie concluded the formal portion or the welcome, this being followed by an enjoyable concert programme. Songs were given by Miss Jessie Bartlett, Messrs. AColledge and A. Cohnel; Mr. A. W. Blomfield contributed a x couple of violin, i solos, and Mr. Alan McElwain several ; humorous recitations. Mrs. A. W. Bloro- ; field and Mr. -H. F. Garland acted as h£j companists. The serving of supper j brought to a conclusion a pleasant ana successful evening. 1
