WARRNAMBOOL ROAD RACE
WON BY NEW ZEALANDER. FASTEST TIME BY O'SHEA. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Becd. 6.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE. Oct. 14. The Warrnambool to Melbourne cycle road race.resulted: P. Hill (New Zealand), 32m. start, 1; R. Arnold (Western Australia), 3P.m., 2; W. Rose (Victoria), 38m., 3. D. Wright (New Zealand), 28m, was fifth, and 0 Shea (New Zealand) made the fastest time. An enormous crowd gathered to witness the finish. When the first competitors were sighted the spectators got out of control. Mounted police vainly tried to keep them in hand, and were compelled' to turn water hoses on them. This resulted in a general melee, in which a number of competitors in the race fell. Over 200 started in the race. P. Hill won by three lengths, his time being 9h. 20m. Bs. O'Shca's time was Bh. 59m. Bs. He also won the fastest time from scratch in 1911. Nearing the finish a non-competitor .tried to pace the leading group and brought down Osborne, who was leading. Many riders straggled in after darkness had fallen.
