FATHERS AND SONS.
GATHERING AT THE Y.M.C.A. An interesting gathering was held in the Y.M.C.A. on Saturday evening, when 130 fathers and sons met for their "annual get together." The first half-hour was spent in the games hall, where fathers and sons struggled for supremacy at various games, many a dad proving that he had not forgotten how to handle a bat or cue. Afterwards all adjourned to the dining hall where tables had been tastefully laid out by the mothers. In a short time all were singing well-known choruses, fathers and sons vieing with each other. Mr. J. Pearce Luke spoke of the great value of any movement which helped fathers and sons to better understand each other's viewpoint. Mr. Stewart urged the boys to make a pal of their dad, to carry their doubts and troubles to him, as father had travelled the path himself as a boy and understood. He emphasised the need of obedience to home, even if it seemed irksome at times, as many boys lost, their grip on life through disobedience. Fathers were urged by the speaker to take an interest in their boys' doings, in their studies, games, and hobbies, to ask about the hours spent in shop and warehouse, and to know their boy's chum. Many a father regretted the day he was impatient with his inquiring boy. When father and son were real pals there was little doubt about the future. Many fathers spc*e of the value of such gatherings, and urged' the continuance of the effort. Messrs. H. Horsloy, L. Bowen, J. Rae, and H; Wilson contributed musical items. .
