TENNIS ON SUNDAY.

PRESBYTERIAN PROTEST.

Without discussion, the council of Victoria College, Wellington, laid on the table the following protest by the Wellington Presbytery against the council's decision to permit tennis to be played on Sundavs :—" The Presbytery depioies the decision of Victoria College to permit the use of the tennis courts by students on the Lord's Day, and protests against this encroachment upon the sacred day of rest by an institution which is maintained by public funds." The Keiburn Presbyterian Church protest, which was aliso " received," was ccuched in the following terras :—" This session and board of managers of the Keiburn Presbyterian Church deplore the act of the council of the Victoria University in acceding to the request of the Students' Association to permit play on the tennis court at certain hours on Sunday, during the college session; that they consider the chairman and members of the council, in approving such request, failed to appreciate their responsibilities and influence a s the legal guardians for a Christian community, of an institution established, and maintained largely out of public funds; that the office-bearers, of this church request the council to reconsider their decision, with a view to reversal of same."
