KEMAND ON TWO C^AEGES. A charge of having obtained 1.1 from W. H. Stevens at Paparoa on October 2 by falsely representing that he was an authorised collector for the Jubilee Institute rfoi.* the Blind, wae preferred against George Fraylor (Mr. Singer), aged 42, in the Police Court yesterday, before Mr. J. W. Poyhton, S.M. Accused was further charged with being a rogue and vagabond within the meaning of the Police Offences Act, in that at Wairere, on October 4, he. imposed on Frederick Gibbs, a farmer, with a view to obtaining money by falsely repreaentinc that he was a duly authorised collector on bebali of the. Jubilee. Institute for the Blind. Counsel said that accused had been .arrested at Mauneaturoto and liad been brought to Auckland so that he could obtain bail. Mr. Singer asked that reasonable bail be allowed. Chief-Detective McHveney opposed bail. He said that this man .had gene round the Northern districts saying he was an authorised collector for the institute, and he had met- with considerable success. A book found in his possession when arrested showed, if correctly kept,- that _■he had collected £167. When questioned accused had at first refused to give his name, and had later given it as Edgar Calvert.
