Benzine thieves a.-re operating in (hie district. During an entertainment at Te Ha pa last evening thfy paid a visit to several motor-cars. However,, they tvieil the thefts once too often, and finally had U> beat a humed retreat leaving their paraphernalia in full wonting operation attached to one car.
The gear shows that the thieves lire quite modern in the matter of appliances, The benzine is. extracted through a syphon about 3ft. long, with a, pump attached, being pumped from the car ta.nk into a kerosene tin. The latter is covered with sacking to obscure the ordinary brightness of the receptacle. In the centre of the tube there is a tap,, which, is operated to stop the flow when l:he tin is full. When the owner in question reached his car lasit evening; the receptacle vas flowing over. '
