The official opening of the T&uranga Defence Rifle Club -wan held on • the riflte range yesterday afternoon in fine- weather, There vrds a large attendance .of member# and friends, including many ladies. The prizes -won last year were presented by Mrs. Mayfiehi, wife of-the patron, of the - club, Colonel Mayfield. The following matches were fired during the afternoon: — Chatty match, teame of four men'. Harold , Oliver, C. Whiting, A. Hynds and H. Barke (rifle club) .1, Four tehms competod. Ladies' match, 200 yds. : MiB&..K. Brain 1. ' Six ladies competed. Miss ; Brain and Miss M. V. Wallis eaeh apoved . •; 21, Miss Brain winning on the count back. Chatty match ': 'W. H. J. Poole, E. J, ' Smallfield, C. Whiting./ and D. M. Mcl:i- ; tosh 1. 'Wo warns competed. *: At a parade of cadets this week. th« ; Mayor, Mr. B. Dive presented W. P. Noble with ths Lady GlodUiy Cup, awarded for%the highest-score in the musketry course i luring the training year. Noble was also presented with a marksman's gold badge.
