STOCKS AND SHARES.
An improved tone was maintained on the Auckland sharemarkat yesterday, reflecting the brighter outlook in the Near East. There was strong inquiry for investment stocks, particularly Government Loan issues, a number of which' were sought at increased prices. However, sellers of Soldiers' Loan (bonds) were the only holders to quote. For War Loans, 19510, 1938, artd 1939 issues £96 5s was offered, this representing increases, of ss, 2s 6d, and 6s respectively., The buying quotations for Inscribed SWk, 1938 and 1939 issues rose by 6s to £96 5s and for Soldiers' Loan (debentures) by 2s 6d to £99 2s 6d. In banks, Now Zealands had sale at 565, tho market closing with buyers at 55a 9d, Sellers 56s 6d. Union of Australia changed hands at £13 4s, and more were offered at. 6d advance, buyers £13 2s 6d. In insurances, there was a transaction in South British at 36s 6d, further buyers offering 365, sellers 375. Standards Jiold at 31s 6d. For New Zealands buyers offered 27s 6d, sellers 27s 9d. In coal Taupiris (ord.) were done at 17s 3d, more being offered at that figure, buyers 17s Id,. In gas, Aueklands (paid up) had sale at 23s 9d. and (contributing), at 18s 9d. In shipping a sale took place in Devonport 1 Ferry at 255. In timber Kauris sold at 28s and there was further inquiry at 27s ' 6d, sellers not, quoting. In miscellaneous lines Auckland Tramways (pref.) changed hands at 18s 3d, and Wilsons Cements at 19s lid and 205." In mining, Moanataiaris j sold at 3s Id, and there was further de- ' mand s,t that price, sellers 3s fed. Oliineniuris were done at, la 6d. For Waihi (Jrand Junctions 9s Id was paid, sellers inking 9s 2d at the close, with buyers at 9s.
