WAR MEMORIAL WRECKED.
STRUCK BY CHARABANC. Within 24 hours of its unveiling, thq Henstridge (Somerset) War Memorial has ~been wrecked by a loaded charabanc. Two children* were seriously injured in the collision. The memorial crQss, nine tons in weight, ■ was of Portland stone, md had hecn erected near four cross ro&c &. * . " In endeavouring to avoid a motor-car, _ the charabanc ran across the road, knocked, down two of the protecting pillars, anfl struck the memorial with such force as 10 dislodge the base and main shaft, which are , badly damaged. The shaft has to be secured temporarily to jisvent it from falling over. An 11-year-old boy named Kimber was 1 in the act of placing a wreath at the time. He was caught between the charabanc and the bottom step of the memorial, and oneof his legs was practically severed belov? the knee.
