MEMORIAL CENOTAPH. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] NGARUAWAHIA. Friday. At a meeting of the Borough Council word was received from the contractors that the war memorial cenotaph would be ready for unveiling on Armistice Day. It was decided to reply that the cenotaph should be in position a fortnight beforehand to enable the work to be completed. Work at the dam, in connection with the new water supply, has been completed and men are now trench ingffor the supply main through the three-quarter mile of bush before the town is reached. The new Waipa Bridge at Ngaruawahia, a very fine structure built by the Public Works Department, is nearing completion and it is expected it will be open for traffic in a fortnight. The decking has been treated with an asphalt preparation, which gives a smooth and yet gripping surface. It is over five years since the old bridge collapsed. War conditions were chiefly responsible for the delay in commencing the new structure. There is everywhere a great show of blossom this year, and from present appearances there should be a very heavy crop of all classes of fruit. The rainfall ior September wa3 3.06 in., bringing the total ior the year up to 44in.
