_ -n i «». ~. i . a t j An improvement in the tone of the Auckland sharemarket was noticeable 3 yesterday. Livestment stocks were in ? better demand, and prices firmed in a 3 number of instances. In Government 51 stocks Soldiers' Loan (bonds) changed ) hands at £99 2s 6d. War Loans, 1938 and 1939, were looked for at £95 17s Sd, 1 an increase of 2s 6d on the previous d »y, sellers of the 1938 issue asking £96 ss, while holders of the 1939' issue did not quote. For 1927 War loans £95 17s 6d was offered, an advance of 7s 6d, sellers • withdrawing after .qjuoting £96 ss. In* [ scribed Stock, 1938 and 1939, were wanted j at £95 17s 6d, this being an increase of 17s 6d in the case of the 1938 issue, while the 1939 issue.was not inquired for on Monday. There were numerous inquiries for banks. New Zeal&nda were wanted at 54s 6d, sellers 55s 3d. New South Wales had sellers at £35 ss, buyers offerinct £34 10s. Nationals were sought at \ £& 18s 6d. Australasias were quoted . at £13 7s 6d, with no buyers. P. and O.'s ; sold at £13 3s 6d. In insurances New ' Zealands had sale at 27s 6d, the market , closing with sellers at that figure, buyers • 27s 3d. South British were done at 1 35s 3d, and more were looked for at | 355, holders not quoting. In financial lines River Plates sold at 19s 9d. In • gas Aucklands (paid up) changed hands ; at 23s 9d. In timbers Parker-Lambs had , sale at 245. In miscellaneous lines sales took place in Auckland Tramways (ord.) 1 at 19s 3d, and Wilsons Cement at 19s lOd. 1 In mining Moanataiari sold at 3s, and the closing' quotations were sellers 3s 2d, buyers 2s lOd. Ohinemuris (paid up) sold at Is 9cl. There were transactions in Waihis at 28s, with further inquiry at that figure, sellers asking 28s 3d. Grand Junctions Isold at 9s, at which price more were offered, buyers 8s 9d. The following sales took place :—Soldiers' Loan (bonds), £99 2s 6d; P. and O.
