CONTRACTS FOR BUILDINGS.

The conditions under which future contracts between architects and builders are to be carried out. were discussed at a representative meeting of Auckland builders and contractors last evening. The present conditions have been in operation for over 12 years. Tho executive of the Master Builders! Federation has endeavoured to induce the Institute of Architects to agree to a conference for the purpose of revising the conditions, as the builders were desirous of securing certain amendments. The architects' submitted, however, an entirely new set of conditions, containing clauses which the builders allege to be clearly against their interests. The federation insisted that the only fair basis of discussion was the existing conditions, but the architects refused a conference, intimating that it was their intention to use their new set of conditions in connection with any contracts let after (October 16. Under those circumstances the Federation of Builders has decided to advise all contract ors to make every tendsr submitted by them on tho old form of tender. The meeting last evening decided to follow out the plan of campaign set out by the federation. It was further agreed to abide by the present genera] conditions of contract framed by the joint conference of architects and builders held in 1910. A circular letter in to be sent to members of the Auckland Builders and Contractors' Association impressing upon members the necessity for adopting this course.
