OBITUARY.
MR, MICHAEL FOLEY.
Mr. Michael Foley, who died on Sunday evening at his residence, Ardmcre Road, at the age of 68, was well known throughout New Zealand. For some time he was the licensee of the old Avondale Hotel, and in more recent years of the Tuakau Hotel. Mr. Foley, who retired from business some years ago, was formerly a member' of the New Zealand Armed Constabulary, and was present sit the taking of Pariliaka in 1881. He took an active interest in all form!* of spjrl;, excelling in his earlier days at? tennis :and cricket. He was tho' founder of the • Avondale Jockey Club, and was its dent at the time of his death. He also helped to found tho Northern Boxing Association, of which he was one of the first presidents. Mr. Foley is survived by his widow and nine children. Two of his daughters married, one being Mrs. J. J. Madill, of Tuakau, and the other Mrs. G. F. Chursh, of Auckland.
MB. WILLIAM KERR.
Mr. William Kerr, who died on September 30 at his late residence, Sentinel Road, Ponsonby, at the age of 77, was an old resident of Mauku, having been engaged in farming there for a great number of years. His mother died four years ago at the age of 09. Mr. Kenwas a prominent Orangeman, and was also a keen church worker. He was buried xin the old St. Bride's Cemetery, Mauku, the Rev. J. P. Fussell conducting the service. The funeral was largely attended by old residents of the district.
MR, ROBERT- GEORGE FOWLER.;. Mr. Robert George Fowler, an old resident of Devonport, died on Sunday even- jj ing at the Auckland Hospital, aged 70 ;■ years. Mr. Fowler was born at Bishop , Stortford, Hertfordshire, England, and came to New Zealand in the ship Lady Jocelyn nearly 50 years ago. Shortly; '$, after his arrival he "joined tie Post and :|| Telegraph Service and was employed at the principal offices in New Zealand for 38 years. Fronv 1889 until his retirexwttt in 1910 he was senior counter clerk
at the Auckland office. After his retirement he visited England, and was in London during the war. A great de&i of his time was spent in visiting wounded New | Zealand soldiers in hospital, and he was | instrumental in raising funds for wounded fj soldiers in London. For sis months fee fl was employed in'the Admiralty offices. •'4 Mr. Fowler, who was ill fo? aboui, two m months before his death, was a widower. He leaves four sons. The funeral will || take place at cemetery to-morrow. M
