CHOPPING CHAMPIONSHIP.
• PRETTY RETAINS TITLE. [m TSUEGfeA?H.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.] I HAMILTON. Saturday. Considerable interest was shown in the chopping contest for the championship of the world, which took.place at Claudelands this afternoon, between Dave Pretty, ol Hamilton (holder), and W. Peck, of Raetihi. The match was for £200 a-side, &nd was white pine log. Both men aro giants in height, being each 6ft. sin., while they turn the scale at 16 stone. The contestants started off scratch, and the chop resulted in a win for Pretty, his time beina sra 28s. Peck was not far behind. The result was received with great enthusiasm. A preliminary chop took place between J. E. Richardson (Waingaro), and A. Duffell (JNgaruawahia), the best two outr of three logs, for a 20-guinea cup, given by Mr. Dave Pretty. Duffell cut through his first 12in. log in 365, and the 16m. log in 50s, winning easily.
